Tips for Using Chrome Extensions for Research and Writing Papers
Students (and teachers) know that writing a good research paper can take up a lot of time. There is also a certain amount of skill associated with researching for such assignments. However, did you know that there are some Google Chrome extensions out there that can make this entire process a whole lot easier for you? The Google Chrome Extensions at School series recently highlighted some recommendations. We’ll be covering some of them in this article.
Let’s start with Aperture Highlights. This extension is a great little tool for finding out more information on a particular topic or person when you come across it during your research. The way it works is by making your additional research almost instantaneous. Just highlight any word or phrase in an article/webpage and voila! Instant search results in a window. The sources used include Wikipedia, Google, Twitter, and YouTube.
Another great extension is Diigo Web Highlighter and Bookmark. This nifty extension allows you to highlight text using multiple colors, and add tags and sticky notes for your future reference.
For those of you that struggle with grammar and spelling, there is After the Deadline. This Google Chrome extension allows you to expertly proofread anything that you write on the web by simply clicking the ABC icon. You can also use it to check your writing style. Currently, this extension is also available in German, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
Of course, these are just three of the most popular Google Chrome extensions available for students. Students can use these tools for anything – college, high school, it doesn’t matter! Oh, and don’t forget to cite your sources!

Another time-saving extension in Chrome is Google Quick Scroll http://goo.gl/ZgZp
In a nutshell, every time you search in Google and then open a page of those results, Quick Scroll highlights the key words and also displays a small pop-up on the bottom of the page.
It really saves on time because instead of reading black and white to find what you’re looking for, you can just read the highlighted words.
