Quick Google Documents Tip: One Click Rename

If there’s one thing I like about Google Docs and Spreadsheets, it’s the fact that I get surprised with new discoveries every so often. For instance, I just learned of a shortcut in renaming documents or spreadsheets. Remember how you can edit the name or description of images in Flickr by just clicking the title or description text? (I’m an avid Flickr user.) Well, you can do that with Google Docs, too.

So here I create a new blank Google document, and it’s aptly titled Untitled.

I simply hover over the title, and the text gets a yellow background (meaning I can click on it and edit it).

After clicking, a dialog box appears, which lets me edit the title or input a new one.

So I edit “untitled” and replace it with “my new document”.

Then when I click OK, the change is effected already.

It’s as quick as that. Same goes for Google spreadsheets and presentations. Just click on the title to quickly rename your document.
