Quick Google Calendar Tip: Click, Drag and Drop Navigation

Here’s a nifty Google Calendar trick I recently learned. Aside from using the tabs above the calendar view to change the view (month, week, day, next 4 days, agenda), you can also use your mouse cursor to drag and drop to select days in the mini-calendar to the left of the main view.

So for instance, I want to select April 2nd, 3rd and 4th, I just click and drag from 2 to 4 on the mini calendar. The main view will then add days according to the current selection in the mini calendar.

If I want to select two whole weeks, say from March 4th to 17th, I just drag from 4th to 17th, and the main view will display those whole two weeks.

Now if I want to select another two-week period, I just click on any date that falls on the first week of my new selection. Google calendar will now show me those two weeks. The same goes with any selection. If I’m in a one-day view, clicking on any other day will display the events for that day alone. If I’m on a three-day view (like with the first example), clicking on any other date will display the events for three days, starting with the date I clicked.

That’s absolutely brilliant! And it prints the selection, too. Thanks very much.

This was a great tip – thanks! I just migrated over to google mail/calendar etc and am loving finding out these cool features. I just found another cool feature that y’all probably knew about. I’m a video editor and the software we use uses the j k l keys to navigate the video timeline and I happen to have my fingers on these “home” keys while checking out this feature of the calendar. Then I pressed the j key and noticed that the calendar moved my selection back and discovered that the l key moved the selection foward by the number of days selected. Pretty cool.
