Did you hear that the latest release of Picasa Web Albums Uploader has just been launched for Mac OSX? All of the improvements actually came from user suggestions, which we think is pretty awesome. How often do companies actually admit that they listen to their users?
One of the things you will definitely notice is that using Picasa will work even more smoothly with iPhoto and other photo apps you may also have on your Mac. But wait, there’s more!
The Picasa uploader application will now work with iPhoto to identify when you’ve got duplicate files of photos and videos. So, if you do end up with a duplicate situation, your program will offer to skip uploading those particular copies. You’ll probably find this most helpful when you are exporting directly from iPhoto.
Now, when your photos are converted to JPEG or resized, the new version of the uploader will offer you better image quality. This is an excellent (and improved) way of preserving photo metadata which might include your camera details and orientation.
Another change they made to the uploader is that it will now quickly retrieve both photos and video files for all of your movies when MPEG-4 versions are available on the server when downloading your albums. So, if you want to share your HD videos, Picasa is one of the better options now.
You can easily get the newest version of the uploader at the download page. But, do double check your current version as it may already have updated itself! Yes, people, it’s that cool!
