New Gmail Update – Better Smartphone Usability
Do you love to use Gmail on your computer but not your iPhone? If you’ve answered “yes” to that question, you aren’t alone. There are many people out there, just like you, who prefer using Gmail on their desktop than a smartphone. Thankfully, the guys over at Google have taken heed!
As of now, you should notice a couple of improvements to Gmail on the iPhone. Don’t panic if you don’t see them right away as the roll out will take place over the next couple of weeks. Here’s what they’ve improved:
Snappier Scrolling – Now, the speed of your scrolling will be directly affected by the speed of your swipe motion. This is really great for those long conversations. A simple movement will allow you to reach the really important information you’re looking for.
Better Toolbars – The toolbars will now remain on the screen while you are scrolling through conversations, rather than moving to the bottom after you’ve scrolled. Having immediate access to toolbars at any point really makes a difference!
For the past couple of months, the Google team have been fooling around with various types of buttons and variations in Gmail for mobile browsers. Looks like they’ve finally found something we all can live with.
Google announced that the improvements will be seen in browsers being run on iPhone and iPod touch devices that run iOS4 in English only. If you haven’t seen the changes yet you can always clear your cache and try again.
