new gmail themesYes, that’s right — no more boring Gmail! If your account has them (apparently they haven’t fully rolled out yet) you’ll find the new themes under Settings > Themes.

The best part so far is that the Gmail UI itself is a little cleaner no matter which theme you choose, very nice!

If you don’t see them in your account yet the Official Announcement has a larger sample pic.

I’m using the Mountains theme right now, but there is more than one I like. Which do you prefer?

the announcement says “We’ll be rolling out themes to everyone over the next couple of days, so if you don’t see them yet, check back soon.”

i love the new themes, with one reservation: a lot of them do not have enough contrast between “read” and “unread” emails! i am loving “desk”, in particular, aside from this.

I love the new themes, I was able to access them at work today & the Cherry Blossom is so pretty! But, when I got home today & logged in it was gone & the themes option isn’t there under Settings anymore, either is the Labs tab… is it normal for them to go away until they are officially rolled out?

I love the Ninja theme. I keep checking my mail just to see it. My Gmail homepage has also changed. Everything looks great.

    hi erica,

yeah, I like that too! I’ve been using the mountain theme which also changes by location, very cool.

I got the new themes today and love them. Unfortunately I see that 5 of the themes advertised are not on the list for me to choose from: Mountains, Planets, Graffiti, Pebbles and Beach. I can only guess there was some technical difficulty with those themes so maybe Google pulled them. I hope they come back!

I had the themes installed earlier today and now they are gone. Whats up with that?

  12. # Charithon 28 Nov 2008 at 5:01 am

I still dont see a theme available under the “Settings” tab. Is there any other way to activate this option ?

Themes also do not work with the Maxthon browser, which I use. Besides, there are other issues with Gmail that need to be resolved….never see my new email unless I do a ‘refresh’ first.

C’mon you Gmail developers, get back to work and fix this thing!

I got the themes as soon as I got the memo, but my email account does not have a few of the themes that two of my other accounts have. How can I get the graffiti theme or the pebbles theme?!

I have two computers at home. On one I am able to use Gmail themes, on the other I am not. Both are running XP Pro, however, the computer I am not able to use themes has service pack 3 installed, the other is only at service pack 2. Could this be the problem?

    To Mike,

Google said: Google Mail Themes aren’t yet compatible with all of our supported browsers. Themes are only available in Internet Explorer 7.0+, Firefox 2.0+ or Safari 3.0+, and Google Chrome. You won’t see a ‘Themes’ tab in your Settings if you’re not using the newer version of Google Mail on the browsers listed above. Please note that Themes are not available if you’re using Internet Explorer 6.0

    To Vicky,

Maybe cause of browser version or Google rolled out to late as “# The Tutor” said

    Hope it helps
    ;)
