New Chart Features for Google Docs
Google Docs now has a new chart editor that provides users with more visualization options and plenty more scope for showing interactive and real-time data in an easy-to-understand fashion.
Google made the announcement yesterday, and if you haven’t already checked it out, Google released a new video which summarizes the new additions and shows off what can be done with the feature.
So what exactly is new? Well, for starters there are new and improved chart types available. Google has added organizational charts, annotated time-lines, gauges, the popular motion chart (which visualizes changing data in real-time), in addition to giving existing charts a more professional appearance, providing an improved layout, new color palette and extra customization options.
Google has also added a new editor, which matches data labels and headers, provides a full-size preview window and auto-selects colors. This new editor has been developed to allow users to design and create charts in as few clicks as possible. The editor also provides a Start tab, which – aside from other handy features – recommends a specific chart based on the information you have already inputted into your spreadsheet.
A new “Charts” tab displays the entire gallery of original (redesigned) and new charts, while the “Customize” tab provides users with advanced customization options.
And finally, Google has now made it easier to share the charts you have created with the rest of the world. By publishing your charts on any webpage, users will be able to see the charts evolve as the data in your spreadsheets is amended.
If you’ve tested out the new features, we would love to hear from you – show us what you created! We’re sure there are plenty of novel features that can be utilized from the new update.
