Mobile Browsers Get Google Docs Viewer
Just last week Google shared with us that the Google Docs viewer would now support both .doc and .docx attachments – great news for those of us that use Gmail, especially! Gone are the days of having to download, save, and then open such files with a desktop application. This is the same Google Docs viewer that lets us sneak a peek at .pdf, .tiff, and .ppt files.
Now this week, things are getting even better with the release of a mobile version of the Google Docs viewer. This mobile version is intended for use with the iPhone, iPad, and Android. It works just the same as when you’re at your computer using Gmail, so there’s absolutely no learning curve. Just click the option to view and let the viewer do all the work.
The Google Docs mobile viewer will allow you to switch easily and quickly between pages of attached documents, as well as panning and zooming in and out within a single page. For iPhone and iPad users, you can just pinch the screen to zoom in and out. Sounds easy enough, right? To test it out on your mobile device simply go to Google Docs and try it out on any .doc, .docx, .pdf, .tiff, or .ppt you’ve previously uploaded.
Though the prospect of being able to easily read attachments with our mobile devices, we do have one question for the guys at Google: when will we be able to see editing on these devices as well?
