The holiday season can cause a person stress just thinking about the shopping, the phone calls, and the cards but imagine if you were part of a military family just trying to stay connected to your loved one overseas during that time of year. It can be pretty heart-wrenching. The guys over at Google have given this some thought and are doing their part this season. And we think it’s pretty cool.
As you probably already know, the built-in video chat in Gmail and all the free calls to the United States and Canada already help people stay in touch, but that doesn’t always help with those overseas. So Google is giving $10 calling credits to military families. The calling credits can be used from inside any Gmail or through Google Voice. The $10 is equivalent to about 30 minutes to Afghanistan, an hour to Iraq, or hundreds of minutes to just about any other location.
Google partnered with Sesame Street and Blue Star Families to make this gift to military families possible. Military family members must be a member of either Sesame Street Family Connections or Blue Star, provide their Gmail address, enable calling in their Gmail or have Google Voice, and register before December 22.
So, if you have a loved one serving overseas, why not register and get some free calling time?
