I just noticed Patrick over at BlogStorm posted about a deal I cooked up last week – Link Exchange 2.0: Exchanging RSS feed ads. Patrick and I are trading RSS feed ads for more exposure (and hopefully subscribers) and with a couple ‘Hey, I’m from BlogStorm’ emails in my inbox it seems to be working already.

How does trading RSS ads work?

Well, just like a normal link exchange we agreed to a fair trade of ads in our RSS feeds. You can do it the hard way and code it up like Patrick did, or if you use WordPress or similar like I do you can use the Feedvertising plugin from TLA. Simply sign up and once you get into your account you’ll see the link for Feedvertising and you can follow their instructions from there.

Feedvertising provides up to six slots for RSS ads which rotate though my feed of which I’m using five at the moment. So, since Patrick’s subscriber # is about 1/5 of mine I traded one of my slots for all of his which should work out about right for both of us. We’ll stop the deal when we tire of it, that’s all there is to it!

How did I come up with this idea?

I’d love to say I came up with the idea but Brian at CopyBlogger mentioned it in an post about increasing subscribers to your blog a while back and it’s been sloshing around in my head for a while now. Thanks for a great tip Brian!

Oh yeah, did I mention I have more slots to fill? :)

I’d like to trade out all of my RSS ads, which means right now I have five slots to fill before I max out the plugin. The only requirements for a trade are that your site needs to be of value to my readers and you must have more than 1k feed subscribers. If you meet that just contact me with your site info and we’ll go from there. I know 1k is high for a lot of you, I do apologize, but there’s only 6 slots to fill so I can’t trade with everyone. :(

I’ll follow up as the deal has more time to mature.
