It may not stand out to you right away that there are Labs features in Google Calendar as well. Although they are easy to find directly in Google Calendar, or through the Google Labs website. To view and enable any of the labs features, check the link in the top right corner of your Calendar screen:

Personalize your Google Calendar background

Instead of a plain white background you can personalize your Google Calendar. Select “enable” for the first Calendar labs feature, and save changes to select a picture you would like to paste all over your calendar. Once enabled, you can go into the Google Calendar settings.

On the general settings tab, you will see the option to add picture towards the bottom of the page:

Just note you will actually need to add a picture that is online somewhere, because you cannot upload anything. You’ll just need to enter a URL for the image.

After you enter the URL for the image you chose, you can click on preview and see the image you chose, although it is extremely small:

Now, you have a few more options in terms of how the picture will be shown on your calendar. You can either have it:

  1. Scaled to fit (stretched out over the entire calendar as one image)
  2. Tiled (many small (same) pictures together
  3. Centered (original size of your picture, in the center of the calendar, shown once):

Now save changes, and you will view your new and improved calendar. My calender first looked plain and boring, like anyone else’s:

However, after personalizing my calendar background and giving it a little make-over, it looks much….uhm… cuter ;-)

The only downside is that the more appointments you add, the busier you get, and the less you will see of your background. Ironic if you add a picture of your loved-one to the background. The busier you get, literally the less you will see of him/her/them!

I’m definitely keeping the new and improved look though. Are you adding one?

    Hi,

I do not have the option New: Labs features in my calendar? I’m Dutch, having Google Calendar in Dutch language, can that be the reason?
