Google releases WaveThis
If you didn’t already know, Google Wave is both a conversation and document which is shared in real time with its users. People can discuss topic of interest as well as work together using a combination of richly formatted text, videos, photos, maps, and more.
Up until now, the only way to get cool information from the web into a wave was to copy and paste it. The guys at Google have recently launched WaveThis which makes starting a discussion directly from the web source a whole lot easier. All you need to do is have a Google account.
The WaveThis feature comes in the form of a button just like a lot of the other social networking sites – click the button and the content (title and URL) will be dropped into a new wave. Once you start a new wave, add friends to start discussing it. This is a lot more interactive than email and a little less public than other broadcast tools.
Because the WaveThis function is so new there probably will be plenty of stuff all over the Internet that just won’t have the button. Fear not – Google has also created a WaveThis Chrome extension as well as a WaveThis bookmarklet. Both are incredibly easy to use.
WaveThis isn’t just for those wanting to discuss what they find interesting on the web. It’s also available to webmasters hoping to generate some interest. Webmasters can now craft URLs that, when followed, automatically create Google waves. These also allow for plenty of interactivity.
