Google Introduces Place Search: Find Local Info Quickly & Easily

If you remember, a few days ago we talked about redesign of location reviews on Place pages. Turns out that Google wanted to introduce a new search service and that’s exactly what it did. It has introduced what it calls as Place Search.

To begin with, here’s an excerpt from the official blog post:

“Today we’re introducing Place Search, a new kind of local search result that organizes the world’s information around places. We’ve clustered search results around specific locations so you can more easily make comparisons and decide where to go. Say you’re looking for that great barbecue restaurant with live music.”

Place search wants to make sure that you get the most relevant information when you are trying to find the best restaurant in your locality, or the number of museums your city has, or any other such local info. Whenever Google detects that your search query has something to do with local information, it’ll automatically show Place results.

You’d also have a red pin on the left sidebar, as you can see in the screenshot below.

On the right hand side of each result, there’s a review and place page link that directs you to the corresponding Google Maps location review page for that place.

Overall, I think this service could prove to be extremely useful and further tempt people to stick to Google for all of their searching needs. Currently, this feature is still being rolled out but if you are desperate to try it, you can use this special place search link. I tried it to check the museums in my city, and it worked pretty well.
