Google eBookstore Puts More Than 3 Million eBooks At Your Disposal

Yesterday, Google finally unveiled what people had been anticipating for a long time – the Google eBookstore. Google claims that it’s the world largest collection of ebooks – more than 3 million of them at your disposal. Be it the latest bestsellers or the old classics, you should find them all.

First things first, the store is currently available only in the US. If you are outside the US, you can still access the site and check things out but you won’t find the latest Google ebooks for sale. Google, as it says here, is working hard to make this store available internationally soon.
The best thing about Google ebooks is that they are not Kindle or iPad dependent. Google knew that it needed to go beyond these devices if it wanted to compete with the Amazons of the world, and that’s exactly what it has done. It’s got a web reader which works through any browser.

Google has also released apps for Android and iPhone/iPod touch to help people read Google ebooks when they are on the move. It’s also compatible with other ereaders, like Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony reader.

Google ebooks could also prove to be a goldmine for booksellers. Considering the authority that brand Google commands, and the reach it has, it is likely that people would accept Google ebooks wholeheartedly. And that presents a great opportunity for publishers.
Apart from over 3 million free ebooks, you could buy the latest titles and read them online or offline. Google ebooks is probably the beginning of a massive shift from paperbacks to digital copies. We’ll have to wait and watch the impact Google ebookstore has in the long term.
