Gmail getting smarter: Email groups faster with Labs ‘suggested recipients’

Gmail has come out with yet another cool new Labs feature: suggested recipients. To paraphrase Google, this function will help you avoid forgetting people in group emails. It does this by ‘remembering’ the names and addresses that you frequently include on the same message. For example, work emails going to a team of colleagues, or email messages going to the same group of friends.

As you are filling in addresses (two or more), Gmail starts suggesting names you might want to include. I liked how they showed this on the Gmail Blog:

For it to work, you need to enable this feature in your Gmail Labs, which you can find in your settings page. From then on, you can add contacts by just clicking on their name in the suggested list.

One downside: people who are already sending me annoying forwarded messages with pictures of ducks and puppies are now going to be able to send those even faster. Let’s hope they don’t send more, and that sometimes they forget to include me.
