Image Alt Text

  1. On a page there is a set of checklist graphics, and next to it there are links that go in deeper to the site for city information.
    My question is, should the alt text for those images reflect the anchor text it corosponds with, describe the image itself, or be left blank?

  2. what is your overall goal? every answer is good depending on the goal. accessibility? usability? rankings? etc.

  3. In this case, the goal would be for the most positive effect on rankings for the page. I'm gonna take a stab and say that matching the check boxes with the areas would be to that extent. Would you say it would then be smart to upload them as separate files, named uniquely as well?

    If I understand your page setup I'd match the checkbox alt text to the page they are on, and I'd use anchor text and title attribute that matches the sections on the links themselves.
