Find news stories easier in Google News

googlenewsleftheader.pngI am a serious news junkie. I have CNN on virtually all day while I am working at the computer and I subscribe to the RSS feeds of about a dozen international newspapers. So needless to say, Google News is one of my favourite websites that I visit on a daily basis and I was interested to read on the Google News blog about some improvements to their advanced search.

One feature that particularly pleased me was the ability to add partial possible news sources and Google brings back all the possible results. In the past, I wasn’t sure if a particular story was in the New York Times or the New York Post. Now I can just type in “New York” and let Google find out for me which publication it was in. Or if you start typing “New York” into the advanced search page, you will be presented with lots of different options just like in regular search.

This feature will become more and more useful as media outlets expand online and offline. As more and more information gets pushed at us, we will find it difficult to remember later where we saw a particular story and so being able to enter only what we remember is a God-send. I have never been blessed with a particularly good memory.
