Blogspot is so bad, I’ll buy you a domain just to get your blog off there!
This post and it’s comments keeps irritating the hell out of me, not because of any particular comment, but because the issue of having your blog associated with spam seems to be taken so lightly by most. That is a big mistake.
Because of that, I was going to sit here and write a lengthy post about that topic, but really, I’d just be rehashing what everyone has been saying for years now. Since all the posts and articles don’t seem to drive the point home well enough, I decided I’d put my money and time where my mouth is, here’s the deal –
I will give you the $10 for a domain name AND help you switch your BlogSpot urls over to your new domain!
I can’t do this for everyone obviously so I’ll have a little contest, rules are:
- Your blog must be on Blogspot now and live
- You must be a member of my MyBlogLog community to participate. If you are not a member, you can join here, it’s very quick and free.
- You must post the link to your blog and desire to participate in the comments on this post. “I’m in” and the link will do.
- You have to accept PayPal for the $10 as I shouldn’t actually buy the domain for you. Once it is bought, I’ll either do the switch for you or walk you through it via IM, it’s up to you.
- There will be SIX WINNERS! Winners will be randomly chosen from the comments by 8pm EST today, or if this doesn’t work out by then when we have six comments
There you go, now you have no reason NOT to switch out of that spam network!
Good luck!
ADDED: Just realized many of you might not know, you won’t have to do anything else. You blog will still be at blogger, everything will be the same except the domain.
Don’t miss another post! Subscribe by RSS feed or by email today!

Now you are doing this, eh? After I bought my domain and moved out of Blogspot! =)
Oh.. here is an extra information: According to a study, 75% of blogspot blogs are splogs (spam blog)!

What if I had a Blogger blog two years ago but got bored after a single post…
Never mind. I’ve been on WordPress ever since I REALLY started blogging.
I would love the opportunity to get my own domain for my blog. I’ve been putting it off for too long. I’ve been blogging on Blogger for almost 3 years. The only problem I have with it is the templates, and that they are a pain to customize. I had my own domain years ago, but it wasn’t a blog, and I enjoyed creating my own templates and customizing them however I wanted. Thanks Tutor! Love your blog by the way.
I’m in…this is a fantastic idea for a contest. I hope I win!
I would have surely been in…
But I love bloggers, its free and easy… Just kidding.
I have already bought a doomain, and will be shifting my blog soon. By first week of April or even earlier I’ll have it functioning. Guess I am not eligble so. Thanks for running such a contest. Any contest is a good contest if it help others, this does for sure. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the kind comments Divya! Since you have a domain you are correct, you can’t play
I do want to make sure everyone is clear though — you’ll still be using Blogger exactly as before, you just won’t be on Blogspot which is the bad part of the product.
So not much changes for you, your blog just appears more professional, and you get out of the spam haven.
Oh yes! I just finished getting off blogger to wordpress…a world of difference after a year with blogger. Ugh.
Hey GT!
thanks for yer Help man!
i had left the = sign out of the Links!!
typing too fast i guess*
Why i Chose Blogger*
well I was just looking at the FREE Service – like most Newbie Bloggers!!
Good ideas, just lazy to participate since I still lazy to change my domain!haha!
[…] Blog Hosting Mar 23, 2007 at 2:22 pm by J. Angelo Racoma – Google Tutor thinks blogspot.com is not really a great place to be for a blogger, especially with the recent reports that at least three fourths of blogs on blogspot.com are splogs (spam blogs). So putting his money where his mouth is, The Tutor is giving away $10 each to six readers for the purchase of new domains. He will even help you set up your Blogger blog on your new domain. I will give you the $10 for a domain name AND help you switch your BlogSpot urls over to your new domain! […]
i’m a chinese, so sorry for my bad english.
blogspot.com had been blocked by the GFW aka government f*** whatever again here in china, which means you can’t visit http://bloooooooogger.blogspot.com directly in china.
i just want to know if i have a domain like http://www.bloooooooogger.com, but still host my blog at blogger.com, will my blog still be blocked by GFW??
if buy me a domain will help me break thought the GFW, then i’m in
Great idea… for a year. Your heart is in the right place, but after the year you’re paying for, will the bloggers renew their domains? Or will they end up back at blogspot, sharing their non-spam content within a sploggy-splog world?
Only time will tell, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Anthony,
Good point, but the point here really is to stress to everyone that blogspot is a bad idea, I think that’s working. And I believe most do want their own domian and don’t mind paying $10 a year (I’m rounding up to ten), I think they are just afraid of the headache of switching over, which is pretty easy for me to do for them.
8o,
can you get to Ilkers site linked in the comments above? he uses a domain on blogger just like I’m talking about here. so, if you can get to his site you are in BUT please confirm here in the comments or I will not count you!
seems it won’t work
sorry 8o, sounds like this won’t work for you. they likely block you by ip so your best bet is to get a host and do it yourself. it’s not very hard (or costly) and you’ll get an ip that isn’t blogger or blogspot that way, which I’d bet would work for you.
sorry you couldn’t play!
Please enter me in the contest to get my own domain. I have been wanting to do this for some time, but I do not currently have any funds to spare for it.
I started my blog as an extention of my domain. To me Blogger is just a mean to publish, as my provider doesn’t allows me MySQL access. However, I don’t think it’s spam. You ought to tell me, you read it!
Alex
AAA,
You are correct, you have fully removed the bad part of Blogger already, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
hii this great contest….i am very much interested in this contest..i hope i will win this…..

Very good idea!
I was considering to move to wordpress for weeks, but I’m too lazy. I’m sure that your help will push me to do the change.
So, I’m really interested!
Tutor: here’s a question for you. I have never used blogger. Not ever. I started my blog on my own domain using WordPress. However, when I comment on a blogger blog it thinks that I have an account there. Worse yet, if I choose the anonymous comment option, the comment does not link to my URL. What’s going on? (I even had one blogger email me and tell me to include my URL in my comments. My answer: I would if I could.) Note: I do not have this problem on non-blogger blogs.
[…] for kicks, everyone who has a Blogspot account should take Chris up on his offer to buy you a domain name just so you can get away from Blogger (he uses WordPress). Yes, not every […]
