Better Google Maps for Mobile Browser and Easier Checkins On the Android App
If you have been frequently using Google Maps on a mobile that’s not an Android phone then you would agree that while it is good and works well, it leaves much to be desired especially when you start comparing it with the Android app or the web version. The good news is that Google rolled out some important changes to the mobile version of the app recently that introduces changes in the interface and feature addition for non-Android users.
The new features facilitate better search for nearby locations, directions for driving, transit, biking etc, ability to see your current location and more. The following 2 screenshots should give you an idea.

As Ars Technica pointed out in their post, this new mobile version further highlights Google’s lack of interest to update the native iOS maps app.
Meanwhile, Google continues to work on the Android Maps app. It released Google Maps 5.5 for Android that, in their own words, ” adds ‘check in’ and ‘rate and review’ buttons to Place pages, the option to edit your home/work address for Latitude, and redesigned transit station pages. ”

This release also improves the location history dashboard and better transit station pages for a number of cities. As you see below, it shows the train schedule in a neat interface.

Overall, Google Maps for mobile just keeps getting better.
