Android HoneyComb Introduced on Motorola Xoom. Looks Good!

In my what we want from Google in 2011 post, I mentioned that we are looking forward to the upcoming Android versions, especially Honeycomb. Well, the wait wasn’t long. Just a few days into 2011 and Google’s Android team has showed off Android’s long awaited Honeycomb version for tablets.

Honeycomb is Android’s highly refined version that’s made keeping large screen devices like tablets in mind. It’s a completely revamped user interface with 3D effects, nice looking widgets and much more. It’ll also have Google Maps 5, access to Google Talk and millions of Google eBooks right on the tablet.

And it has launched on Motorola Xoom with much fanfare at the CES 2011 in Las Vegas. Motorola had already indicated that it’s coming up with a new launch at CES, and we all kinda knew that it’s going to be an Android tablet.

Motorola Xoom is a 10.1 inch tablet with 1GHz dual core processor and of course runs on Android version 3 i.e the Honeycomb version.

The tablet looks sleek and nifty, and has the potential to give iPad a run for its money when it starts shipping in March, 2011.

• 1GB DDR2 RAM
• Android 3.0 Honeycomb
• 5MP rear camera capable of HD recording with 2MP front camera for video calls

• Battery life- up to 10 hour video playback

Well, I have huge expectations from this version of Android and I can only hope that it lives up to it. The demo certainly looks good but the real test will be in March when the device starts reaching the hands of users. Lets hope this gives iPad a tough competition. After all, competition is good for us, the consumers, isn’t it?
