Analyze and Improve Site Loading Speed With Page Speed Online
Page Speed Online is a Google Labs project that lets you see how fast your site loads as compared to the average loading speed of websites, and what it scores on Google’s Page Speed index.
You might have used or heard about Google’s Page Speed add-on for Firefox (also available for Chrome now) that works in conjunction with the Firebug extension to analyze site loading speeds. This web based tool works on the same principle, except that you don’t need to install a browser add-on for it to work.
The homepage has a bar in the middle where you can enter the site URL to analyze its performance.

Clicking on “Analyze Performance” will run page speed rules and show the report that will contain the summary of the score and details of the analysis.
As you see below, we checked this site and got a score of 83 out of 100. It shows that we need to leverage browser caching on a high priority basis in order to improve the loading speed. There are also suggestions in the medium and low priority category.

All the suggestions are neatly listed in the sidebar.

Clicking on a particular suggestion will show the details of the URLs that need to be optimized for improving the performance.

The tool isn’t just limited to analyzing your site for the desktop user. There’s an option under the Analyze Performance button to get mobile suggestions as well.

Overall, a useful tool for webmasters to optimize their site for better loading speeds and also achieve better Google rankings as site speed was included as a ranking factor last year by Google.
