Christine already talked about how Google is making its tribute to Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary. However, Google didn’t stop at Big Bird.  Instead, they created logos for the characters found in international versions of the show.

Here’s a collection of the entire world-wide Sesame Street tribute:

An illustration of the cast of Sesame Street (USA) This is probably the picture you get when you think about Sesame Street (minus the Google logo in the middle, haha).

Abelardo Montoya - Mexico

Abelardo Montoya – Mexico’s very own Big Bird. He appeared in Plaza Se’samo.

Kami - South Africa

Kami – South Africa had its own HIV positive character on the show Takalni Sesame (Be Happy Sesame). Announced in 2002, Kami is an orphaned muppet girl with HIV and the sniffles. The character’s name derives from the word Kamogelo, which means acceptance.

Ieniemienie - (Netherlands, Belgium)

Leniemienie – Netherlands and Belgium had a cute little six-year-old mouse on Sesamstraatwho started out as a simple mouse looking for cheese. When female emancipation fires died down, she became more child like.

Boombah and Chamki - India

Boombah and Chamki – India’s stars on Gali Gali Sim Sim, Boombah is a vegetarian lion who loves to dance and Chamki is an inquisitive schoolgirl who loves to learn. Chamki knows karate.

Abigail - Israel

Abigail – Israel’s own Elmo, Abigail stars on Rechov Sumsum where she interacts with Israeli celebrities and speaks about herself in the third person.

I didn’t even know these characters existed until I saw the logos up on Google! It just goes to show how far spread this amazing show really is. For more information on Sesame Street, international or not, check out Muppet Wiki!

    Today is the 234th birthday of the Marine Corps. Hey Google, how about honoring our troops serving in the United States Marine Corps today with a Google logo instead of Sesame Street, to which you have devoted the entire week too. Semper Fidelis Google, and god bless America.

    They kindof did… Burt and Ernie’s “don’t ask don’t tell side hug”

    GOOGLE is so disrespectful. It’s a matter of priority and tact. Today is the 234th birthday of the Marine Corps. Does Google choose to honor our troops serving in the United States Marine Corps today? No. On the Google home page, is there a Google logo commemorating the B-day of the Unites States Marine Corps? NO!! Instead, for the 4th day in a row i see another Sesame Street honorary logo!!!! Google couldn’t take ONE day to honor the MARINES with a simple logo?!
    No suprise. Google is dead to me

    @devildog77 and adamwersky

    I’m sorry my post stirred some bad feelings. I agree that Google should have taken the time to celebrate the United States Marine Corps. It is possible that the Sesame Street tribute was a paid deal, and therefore Google would have a contract for that particular series of days. I would think that more likely than them blatantly ignoring an important establishment date in U.S. history.
