4 Cool Google Maps MashUps For Runners & Bikers
While Google Maps itself has a huge number of cool features, the various third party mashups based on it are equally cool and useful. They enhance the functionality of Google Maps and add extra features depending upon what exactly the mashup offers to do.
Here are 4 such mashups which are meant for runners and bikers. They help them make use of Google Maps to enhance their running and biking experience.
1. WalkJogRun
WalkJogRun is a nice Google Maps Mashup which helps you plan running routes with the help of a distance/speed calculator. Working on it is easy. Click on a point in the map to mark it as the starting point and then click on other points which fall in your route. You can save the route, print it out and even share with the runners community on the site.

2. Gmaps Pedometer
Gmaps Pedometer is another brilliant site which can help you plan walking or jogging routes effectively. Just enter the city name and then zoom into your location on the map. Then click on ” Start Recording ” on the left and start double clicking on the points in your route. It creates a route for you, tells you the distance and if you enter your weight, you also get the calories you’ll burn while running on that route.

3. NYC Bike Maps
NYC Bike Maps, as the name suggests, is a Google Maps Mashup specific to New York City and helps to map New York City’s bike paths, lanes and bike gateways. It contains pre-drawn bicycle paths like Manhattan Bike Map, Brooklyn Bike Map etc and also shows them on the map in different colors.

4. USATF Map
USATF is another route creating and tracking website which uses Google Maps to help you create running routes, mark them on the map and calculate the distance in miles or kms. One nice feature I found on this site is the ‘ Add water ‘ marking, which you can use to decide where on the route you’ll have water.
