Edit Google Docs on Your Mobile
A couple of years ago Google gave us Google Docs for mobile. However, until now you could only read your own spreadsheets. This works out if you are trying to memorize your documents (do some last minute studying if you’re in college!), or if you are endlessly enamored with your own number crunching.
However, Google Docs is really just useful if you can also edit your documents. And now… this is possible.
Editing Spreadsheets on your phone
The new Google Mobile Docs let you:
- Add new rows
- Edit existing cells
- Sort by columns
- Filter by terms
To really appreciate these new freedom you have with your mobile spreadsheets, you need to know what to do with them.
What to do with your mobile spreadsheets
If you are not using Google Docs yet, then here are some great reasons to use mobile spreadsheets.
- Budgeting Tempted to buy that latest gadget, but not sure if you can financially justify it? Keep track of a budget on your mobile spreadsheet. You can track big expenses or keep track of checks you give out. Later you won’t have to wonder what in the world you spend check number 233 on.
- Personal Gift RegistryAround the holidays I am always scrambling to figure out what to get friends and family. I know that throughout the year there are plenty of times someone says “I’d love to have this-or-that”, and I just forget. With a spreadsheet you can quickly update a wish list for everyone you might be getting a gift for in the forseeable future.
- Share personal favorites Whether you and your friends share favorite restaurants, or share a wine-list (I love this idea!), you can update your shared list on the go, when you actually encounter that great new vintage or scrumptious meal instead of forgetting about it when you’re back at your computer.
Do you use Mobile Docs? What do you use your spreadsheets for?

I love Google Spreadsheets. I have been able to use it to create a poor man’s twitter and even an on the go Seinfeld Don’t Break the Chain Calendar. Being able to edit is a huge opportunity to make it even more useful
