GooglePreview lets you see where you’re headed
GooglePreview is a Firefox extension that inserts preview images into your Google or Yahoo search results, as well as sites’ popularity rank bar.
You may have trouble thinking up of a use for it, but I do. Let’s say you’re a Google power user (if you’re in this site, chances are you are one) and you need to visit and search for a vast number of sites and you can’t be bothered to go to each site.
GooglePreview lets you see those sites, and at a glance, see what’s useful and what sites you can afford to not go to. Or maybe you know what site/page you are looking for, but can’t remember the name. But if you don’t think you need thumbnails, well, maybe you just want to add new features to Google everytime something comes out.
If you’re worried about this addon slowing down Firefox due to thumbnail generation, worry not: thumbnails are created and provided by GooglePreview servers.
Some of the features of this Firefox addon would be:
Site Thumbnail: Every search result will now have a small image next to it, showing its a screencap telling you what kind of site you’re about to go to.
Popularity Rank: You can also learn how popular the site is: Each item in the result page has a ranking bar below it: moving your mouse onto it will show you how popular that site is on the web.
Options: The options menu will let you customize which and how many items to display on a page, as well as the version of the add-on that is currently installed.
- After installation restart your Firefox, and try a search on Google.
- To disable GooglePreview click on
in the status bar (bottom right corner) ->
click again to enable. - If you only see gray borders next to the search results, you may have the ‘Redirect Remover’ extension installed. In this case please add ‘googlepreview.com’ to white list of ‘Redirect Remover’.
Go on, try GooglePreview!
