Ever want to have all your tasks included in a single window so you won’t have to juggle your calendar, email, and your to-do list? Luckily, Gmail Labs has come up with a lightweight task list built-in right into your Gmail account.

Gmail tasks

But the awesome thing about the new Gmail Task manager is that you can add a Gmail message to your task list in one click or keystroke: just click in an empty part of your list and start typing. You’ll be able to start writing your tasks. There are no buttons to click and it’s saved automatically. Hit Enter and you’ll save the task immediately.

You can create multiple lists and switch between them, indent items, mark them as complete, drag and drop to reorder items, and view or clear completed items. You can even turn emails into tasks by selecting an email, and then choosing “Add to Tasks” from the More Actions drop-down.

In fact, there are even keyboard shortcuts:

1. Manage your email workflow better by converting emails into tasks: “More Actions > Add to Tasks”

2. ENTER creates a new task, TAB and SHIFT-TAB indent and un-indent, CTRL-UP and CTRL-DOWN let you reorder from the keyboard, and SHIFT-ENTER toggles back and forth between the detailed view for a task and the main view

3. After turning Tasks on, turn on Keyboard shortcuts in “Settings > General” and then use “SHIFT-T” to create tasks from your emails – even faster than using the More Actions menu.

And just like Gmail chat, you can even pop-out the tasks module into its own window. You can edit the saved tasks by clicking on the gray arrow pointing to the right. Clicking on the gray arrow also lets you to edit the task’s details, add a note and/or a due date, or remove the related email message.

If you want to try out Tasks, just go to the Settings menu and go to the Labs tab. Or you can click here if you’re logged on to Gmail. Look for Tasks and enable it.

Now what do you think of Gmail tasks? Tell me all about it by leaving a comment.

Is there a way to share tasks with group members or other gmail users, specifically Google Apps members of the same domain?
    Thanks.

I love the tasks feature, it’s very easy to use! Is there a way to sync it with my Blackberry or to have it show up on my calendar?

I also was interested in knowing if Google Calendar has a “tasks” function that I can synch along with the calendar to my Blackberry…

Ben, With the task list open, press “Ctrl” and “P” on your keyboard. This will print the task list.

I don’t know if some people have this problem with task list, but when it autosaves, the text cursor is always going down the tasklist, and it’s really annoying when you’re actively typing.

Is there a place where we can suggest improvement or report bug for this app?

    Thanks :o )

I’ve started using GoogleSync to keep my calendar and Blackberry updated with each other. Is there a way the the Tasks I enter in the blackberry can go to the Google Tasks window – or can tasks from Google go to my blackberry?

Why does the task window not open with firefox? I love it, but I can only use it with explorer :(

Is it possible to edit the NAME of a task list once created?

I followed instructions above for printing my task list (CTRL + P). However, it just overlays it on top of my emails in my Inbox. Is there a way to print it on a page all by itself?
