I found a new way of looking at Google Maps today, it’s the YouTube video layer.

Imagine your usual Google Map, this time, imagine it showing videos regarding say …. a place in Japan, Europe, The Americas, Canada or any other interesting place you are thinking of visiting sometime in the future.

That’s right, check out this screenshot of what I mean:

The above picture is a GoogleMap-YouTube layer of Paris, France. Notice the video boxes? When you hover your mouse on any of them a call-out box appears and in it, a YouTube player. You are able to play videos specific to the place you are GoogleMapping. Isn’t that convenient.

Ok, now how to enable this feature?

Step 1: Go to http://maps.google.com

Step 2: Now click the “browse the directory” link as seen below:

Step 3: Browse the directory and look for the YouTube map layer as seen below:

Step 4: After adding the layer in, make sure you check that layer to show it. Like so:

That’s it… now you can see videos from all parts of the globe… give it a try! :)

Great tip! Do you know of anyway to filter the videos that are displayed?
