Google Spreadsheets turns into Google Wiki

Google Docs continues its continual relentless march towards its eventual domination over Microsoft Office. The Spreadsheets Division is now morphing partly into the Wiki Division with the news that anyone can now edit a spreadsheet - without the need for a Google account.

This handy little feature comes courtesy of the feature “Anyone can edit this document WITHOUT LOGGING IN“. So if you have a spreadsheet, you can now publicly post the URL on the internet, and anyone can now make edits to that spreadsheet and save those edits - and they don’t need a Google account in which to do so.

In other words, that spreadsheet of yours has just turned itself into a wiki. Here’s an example which was posted by Google Operating System and can be equally applied to any subject you want to post a spreadsheet / wiki into.

OK, the system isn’t a Wikipedia killer or anything. Jimbo Wales isn’t sitting in his office biting his nails to the quick wondering what to do with his future now that Google Spreadsheets has introduced a wiki feature. But for people like me who are not that tech savvy and who are not skilled enough to set up a Wikipedia site on their website, this may be instead a quick and dirty solution to getting a Wikipedia-style page set up and put out there on the net. All it takes is a few clicks and bingo, the page is out there. Granted, it’s not as feature-rich as the proper Wikipedia but it’s better than nothing, right?
