OpenSocial

Google has just announced that they will be showing a preview release of their latest creation to be built on OpenSocial: Google Friend Connect. Friend Connect (note: the link will be working after tonight’s conference) is touted to “Easily insert social features to make ‘any app, any site, any friends’ a reality.”

That sounds pretty exciting to me. We’ll give it a whirl and report back once it’s out and have a chance to kick the tires a bit.

I expect this to be delved into further at the Google I/O developer conference later this month.

I hope this is the future of social networking on the internet. I currently put a lot of effort into my tumblelog, which I have far more control over than any social networking site. I would love to add social networking features to this site so it would be an even more useful ‘homepage’ for me.

@gil: you and me both, buddy. This should be an interesting one to watch.

@Foomandoonian: indeed, ease of use is going to be the way to go. Bring down the barriers of entry and increase adoption. Sounds great, and we shall see the results it brings.

Just watched the video, all 12 minutes of it, I have to say it does look pretty awesome.
