Let’s Re-introduce Google Groups

I’m a heavy email user nowadays. I send out roughly around 50+ email messages per day on my main Gmail account AND receive (oh my!) close to about 400+ emails. I’ve worked my mail program so much from filtering it to the right folders. I need to organize to keep that email flood in order. And for this purpose, I sometimes use Google Groups for my mailing list subscriptions to help me sort things out easily.

What is GoogleGroups?

A Google Group is a user-owned group created using the Google Groups service. Google Groups not only allows you to manage and archive your mailing list, but also provides a method for true communication and collaboration with group members. Unlike other free mailing list services, Google Groups offers generous storage limits, customizable pages, and unique management options.

Great! Let’s create a Google Group right now:

Step 1: Go to http://groups.google.com and press the “create a group” button seen on the right of the page:

Step 2: Log-on using your GMail/Google Account, if you don’t have one, you should create it before joining/using GoogleGroups.

Step 3: If you’re creating your first Google Group, it will ask you to enter a nick name. Enter what you like and click ok.

Step 4: Now you can begin to make your first Google Group. It’s a two-step process, the fist step is to set it up and the second step is to invite people to join.

Have a try! You can start making a Google Group for various people of like interests. Like a Google Group for family, cousins, high school pals, the scouts, your knitting club, the neighborhood watch and many many more.

Or, you can use it for various other purposes, like subscribing to other mailing lists. That way, you won’t get your Gmail (or other email) account flooded with mail list messages. Do you know you can use Google Groups to backup/archive your Gmail?

TIP: start with a small group, get the hang of it, and then you can begin making many more Google Groups as you become an “expert”!

Have fun!

Just wanted to share with your readers that Google Groups have been used for spamming purposes too. So better watch out those ‘new friends’ joining your groups. You might end up having Mr V*agra in your list.
