Adding public and friends’ calendars to your own Google Calendar account is quick and easy, as we have explained before. But what if the information given to you was a URL only? For instance, an organization may publish their public calendar’s URL in iCal format.

With Google Calendar, it’s also easy. First, of course, you need the exact URL of the public (or private!) calendar you wish to access. For instance, icalshare.com has a handful of shared calendars in iCal format. Let’s choose one.

So I’ve copied the link to my clipboard, which is webcal://ical.mac.com/juo100/WWE.ics

Then in Google Calendar, look for the add by URL option in the calendar management pane (to the left of your main Calendar window).

We then input the URL of the public calendar, and click add.

And voila! We now have the shared calendar added to our list of public calendars we can view.
