I was just skimming the comments and noticed on our Google Earth Download page that Tim was having a problem with Google Earth locking up on him or freezing when trying to upgrade to 4.1. Tim said:

I have google earth on my system and have been trying to update to the new 4.1 version to have access to the sky version but it locks up on me. Any possible solutions?

Turns out this is a common problem Tim is having  -

The most common reason why Google Earth might not work correctly is an out-of-date graphics card driver. Updating your graphics card driver can help if Google Earth is not working properly on your machine.

You can get more details in this help file on the problem.

Good luck!

I had this problem, too, but nothing was working. Turns out it was simply my anti-virus software that was causing the issue! Mine is CA, Computer Associates. You can either put the CA anti-virus program on “snooze” (by right clicking it on the task bar). Or you can go to the CA program, find the Knowledge Center, and type in a *.kmz….That will cure the problem!
