Google’s Blogging Philosophy
By Mark O’Neill
One of the many things that’s so good about Google is their policy of writing official blogs for each of their services. Some of these blogs can be a little stuffy and commercialised but nevertheless they are a good way of keeping up with Google developments. The main Google blog boasts a RSS subscriber feed of 627,000!
I’ve often read that Google encourages their employees to start writing blogs to keep the outside world informed of what’s going on in the Googleplex. This is an excellent company policy and long may it continue. It does tend to sometimes fire back in Google’s face however when fired employees take out their grievances with the company online in their blogs. But on the whole, Google’s blogging policy works well.
Here’s a list of the official Google blogs that I consider to be the most interesting and the most relevant to the average Google user.
The official Google blog has a longer list of official blogs including the foreign language blogs and the developer API blogs. But since readers of Google Tutor are predominantly English-speaking, I have excluded the foreign blogs from this list.
