Collaborative Gmail Video

“The Gmail Approach to Email: Gmail is a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that email can be more intuitive, efficient, and useful. And maybe even fun.”

We have seen Gmail demonstrate the intuitive, efficient and useful part of their service. Now its time for us to see the fun part.

The Gmail team has come up with a fun way to get their users to show their love for the email service and their creative skills at the same time. A couple of weeks back Gmail invited all its users to make and submit their own Gmail video clips. The best Gmail videos clips submitted will be added to the final Gmail Video, which will be shown in the Gmail homepage.

To submit your own Gmail Video all you need is to print out a copy of the M-velope, use the it as part of your video, and upload your video at YouTube.

The rules to be followed when making a Gmail video are:
1. The M-velope should be clearly visible.

2. The M-velope should enter from the left of the screen and exit at the right.
3. The video should be less than 10 seconds long.

Video clips that do not make it in the final cut can still be viewed via YouTube and will also be shown on the Gmail Video Help Page. Note though that video clips are rotated showing only fifteen featured clips at a time.

If you haven’t submitted a video yet make sure you spend a few minutes shooting one this weekend since the deadline for submission is on Monday, August 13.

Gmail launched April 1, 2004, so thank goodness I created my Google & Gmail account on January 2, 2008.
