Given that Wordpress.org seems to have alot better filters to prevent this, its no wonder that the spammy blogspot blogs in the search engine results are showing up less and less each day, and being replaced by legitimate wordpress blogs. Blogsplot has become a bad neighborhood, with no policing or punishment for the bad actors.

Of course PC magazine would say blogger is bad. If you have been reading their articles for years now you will notice that that PC Magazine is somewhat Microsoft biased.

I even wonder if some of their columnist are on Microsoft's payroll.

I run a few different blogs, one happens to be a corporate blog at the company I work for. I was new to blogging at that point and only wanted to try something out and got on blogger. I now feel as if I am stuck on it. Meaning I have this coporate blog that does get traffic, comments etc, heck it even has some really good rankings for odd keywords I never would have expected. Its ok, but I really wish I had it hosted on the primary domain for the company. I am not a big fan of Blogger these days.

The main issues I have with Blogger is the modest inventory of templates, no timestamping capability, and no built-in categories like Wordpress. Other than that, I've been somewhat content with it. The posting do seem to get indexed fairly quickly.

I felt your title was inaccurate, if not misleading, because it doesn't really represent the conclusion of the article you linked. It may be true, and in my opinion it is, but it doesn't really seem relevant in this context. It may be a little more troublesome but there's nothing standing in the way of someone intending to make a legitimate, successful blog on the Blogger platform.

Is there any way to move my whole blog out? I am definitely not a spam blog, but will lose 6 months of blogging if I start again.

Eh, can't see anyway that title could be misleading there Brian...

Blogger as a tool is average, but it's not the tool so much as how it's run. Spammers love it and have for a very long time, and Google really does nothing but watch it grow.

Even much of the general public knows <a href="http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-01,GGLG:en&q=blogspot+spam" rel="nofollow">Blogspot = Spam</a>, why would you ever want your blog in a place like that?

It's hard enough being a successful blogger without using a service that's a known spam haven.

Sorry to say that this is, I feel, another cheap shot at Blogger thanks to a misleading title. The linked story mentions that many, many Blogger blogs are used for nothing more than spamming ("splogs"). That's a great reason for why people should not READ Blogger blogs, but offers no insight as to why they should not WRITE Blogger blogs. I maintained a perfectly legitimate personal blog on Blogger for over a year and was never aware of any security or spam issues regarding my site.

You seem rather put off by Blogger. I too outgrew my Blogger blog due to its less-than-robust featureset and the sloppy transition to the new version late last year, but I myself would not issue a blanket statement saying that Blogger is not the right solution for anyone. I loved it as a beginner but grew out of it when I became serious. I certainly wouldn't recommend to someone new to blogging that they purchase a domain name and web host when they could test the waters for free.
