When you read the news, you’re always under the impression that it’s current.

I usually fall into this assumption whenever I read the papers at my folks’ place (I don’t subscribe to the daily papers as I rarely find the need to read about local news anyway). So sometimes even if it’s a week old, I would really exclaim in wonder about the headlines. Of course after everyone has laughed at me for being so dense (and lazy, for not checking out the paper’s date), I would still never learn.

I sometimes feel the same when I read news online.

Most of the time, the news item’s date stamp is placed right under the title, so that makes for easy reference. But sometimes I still get confused, especially when scanning for older news items. Google News, for instance, used to highlight that you can view news items by category and sub category. But today, Google News’ search interface has shifted to an approach more akin to Google Blog search. You can view news items grouped by today, yesterday, the past week or the past month.

This way you can browse for news items organized as they happen. Or perhaps when you’re doing research on what happened the previous week or month, this can come in handy.
