How To Sync Google Calendar With Outlook
Having a calendar on your computer is great. But you can’t always carry your computer around everytime you go, right? Even if it’s a laptop, you sure don’t want to be burdened with having to lug around a five-pound piece of equipment everywhere you go. Need to communicate? That’s what your cellphone is for. Or perhaps you have a smartphone or PDA, then that’s even better.
But how can you organize your life if you’ll have to rely on a single device to keep track of tasks and appointments, you ask? Well, you don’t necessarily have to rely on only one device. That’s what online services are for. And Google Calendar is one heck of an online service that can help you with this.
For one, Google Calendar is SyncML compliant, meaning you can use other compliant devices to synchronize information with your Google Calendar (okay, let’s refer to it as GCal from this point on). If you don’t have such a device, you can even do a one-way sync using XML. This works seamlessly with Apple’s iCal, but not really with Outlook, though.
One-way syncing is all right, but that’s not very useful if you prefer the interface of your local client for inputting data. Outlook doesn’t have built-in sync capabilities with GCal, but there are third-party applications you can use to sync Outlook with GCal, such as Remote Calendars.
Here’s a tutorial with screenshots on jakeludington.com. This involves a few things:
- Install Remote Calendars
- Specify time zone and auto updating
- Paste in iCal subscription link
- Input Google calendar username and password
Once you’ve installed Remote Calendars (Microsoft .NET is required), you can now sync Outlook 2003 with GCal.

Screw this… just use Calgoo
I tried the open source Remote Calendars app several months ago to no avail - the client side said it was successfully sending my calendar to Google, but Google Calendar remained empty.
That Calgoo app linked in the comment above looks pretty tantalizing, however.
I tried these steps and got no where. Installing Network 2.0 tedious as I had to reinstall Outlook and manually adjust the components. After that everything supposed installed properly but my Outlook does not have the toolbar that GT claims it should have and I could not move on from there. Bottom line, I need help.
I just installed and configured GCALDaemon with Thunderbird and it’s calendar addon. It’s not for the faint of heart but it works great and is very customizable. Google GCALDaemon… it’s open source and has a very well written tutorial.
OggSync will do this for you as well, full two way sync, auto-sync with multiple Google calendars. (color coded in outlook even)
Did you try gSyncit?
which of these is free, full-demo, or costs money?
GSyncIt (above) has an annoying Nag Screen… OggSync is vague about the differences between the demo and “Pro” version.
Please let us know which of these options is free.
Hi send invitations about my google calendar events to people that doesn’t have gmail accounts. But normally those people answer my invitations and I received their emails with an attached file named: noname and this is a filetype of iCalendar (to be opened with Outlook) and its size is only 1K. But when I do click on that attached file, Mozilla ask me about what to do: if open with Outlook or save on disk.
It will be great if there is one way to open this file on Google Calendar directly… this exist? What ways should I take to perform this?
Thanks a lot!
LM
Does anyone know of a way to do it automatically, without a button press.
Also, that remote calendars solution doesn’t work for me.
Good news is that we dont need to use this anymore as google have released an automatic outlook sync and it works a treat…
