Personalizing Google News
Reading the morning news on the papers can get to be boring, especially since the papers usually have similar headlines and news content. And this can also be frustrating since aside from reading the generic news, you’d have special content you would usually be looking for, which are the ones particularly suited to your interests. Sports buffs go to the sports pages. Business types go for the financial pages. If you’re like me then you’d be going straight to the funnies (the only sensible stuff I get to read on the papers these days, if you ask me).
Online versions of the papers are good, too. But they still have that same generic feeling. You go to the paper’s website and you still get the same headlines. Sometimes you have to dig deep to find what you’re interested in.
One solution: Google news. I find Google news to be very useful because of two reasons. First, it aggregates news from various sources, whether mainstream media or new media (including high-profile blogs). You don’t have to look at different sources, instead you just check out one website and everything is there, neatly categorized by major topic. Second, you can personalize your content as you wish. It’s like having your own newspaper.
Google news offers personalization options, which lets you rearrange content or even come up with your own news homepage according to your queries. To access this, look for the Personalize link on the Google news homepage.

You can then move around the sections according to preference. You can add new standard sections, for which you can choose among country-specific editions of Google news.

You can also create your own custom sections, depending on the keyword or keywords you wish to search for.

Once you create custom channels, Google news will then present news according to your interests, and from different news sources, too.
