Upgrading Your Blogger Account to Version 3 (part 2)
Blogger introduced a ton of features with its latest upgrade, which is considered by many to be one of the very few major upgrades to Blogger in its almost seven years of existence. We talked before of Blogger’s use of dynamic pages (as opposed to static html pages) and recastable blogging (access controls, depending on username). Blogger has added even more!
Labels. You can now add labels to your blog posts. This is very much like categories on other blogging softwares. Actually, labels are more akin to tags, in that you are more free to input any label that comes to mind instead of choosing categories off a checklist or dropdown list. The system works like any other tagging system when it comes to the archives page, since you can easily generate an archive page consisting of posts that are labeled with a certain keyword.
GUI Layout editing. You no longer have to know a bit of CSS and HTML if you want to change some design elements on your blog. Whether you’re changing your entire layout, or you just want to add something to your sidebar, you can do it in drag-and-drop fashion. You can even rearrange your sidebar and content areas easily.
More feed options. One of our gripes with Blogger used to be the lack of feed options. It was either full, partial, or none at all–these were the only options. And the only format was Atom. Now, you can get XML feeds for your posts, your comments, and comments on a particular post only. Blogger also promises to provide RSS 2.0 (for those concerned about standards compliance).
Migration to Google accounts. Having all your web applications accessible under one username and password can be convenient. And this is one of the better things that Google has done with Blogger. You can now migrate your Blogger account under your own Google account (usually also your Gmail account). Or, if you already have a Google account, but not a Blogger one, then you can create new Blogger blogs under that account.
