Optimizing for Google searches can be a daunting task if you’re new to search engine optimization. While many people would prefer to outsource SEO to other companies, some would opt to reach out to the public first by blogging. Starting a blog helps a business have a human voice that the public (and hopefully the customers) can interact with. As a secondary benefit, a blog could drive traffic to a company’s site. A blog can also help optimize for relevant keywords.

Let’s continue our discussion on what makes a blog search-friendly.

Internal linkages. A blog’s design is structured such that the frontpage will keep on linking to static item pages and posts and as well the blog’s archives. Each static page also links to the home page and other archives such as date and category listings. This deep-linking within a site helps the Google bots crawl for content, and adds to the list of keywords and phrases that Google searches can find relevenace for.

Keyword relevancy. Ask any experienced SEO professional and he will tell you that keyword relevancy is a more important gauge of whether your site can be successful with Google rather than PageRank. Having the correct set of keywords and phrases (the ones that a Google user would search for) would most likely bring you up high in the results pages, even with normal PR sites (like PageRank 4 and 5).

Inbound links. What’s great with blogs is that people generally perceive blog entries to voice out honest opinions by real people. And when other bloggers like what one has written, then that blogger will link to the original site or the original post. This helps with improving pagerank.

Whatever your reasons for starting to blog, it’s always good to keep it real, so you don’t look like a spam blogger or a link farmer (both bad for SEO!). Next, we’ll show you how to optimize your blog for search-engines.
