Google Updates, First Week August

On to some Google news today, this week Google doesn’t seem to be coming up with new updates and applications to suit the needs of us Google geeks. Perhaps it’s because it’s because of SES week. That’s Search Engine Strategies to the uninitiated. Google is apparently having a strong presence at this year’s SES (but of course!).

As luck would have it, SES is happening in San Jose Monday through Thursday next week. Google’s very own (CEO) Eric Schmidt will participate in a discussion with conference organizer Danny Sullivan, and many other Googlers will be speaking at SES throughout the week as well

Here are a few things to get us excited.

Google related links–with video!. I didn’t know about this feature until now. Apparently, Related Links automatically generates links to related material for webmasters. I guess it’s kind of like Google AdSense but without the revenue sharing model. What’s great is that the links can now point to videos. This is quite interesting.

Findings on clickfraud detection. If you’re any serious about advertising with AdWords, then you had better check out this article on the Google AdWords blog. Google claims the problem with clickfraud is grossly exagerrated, particularly with the methodologies of third-party “clickfraud analysis” consultants.

University libraries partner with Google. This is what students and researchers are looking for. Google Books is partnering with several universities and public libraries for complete indices of available works and publications. Sounds sweet. No longer would we have to rely on outdated public-access catalogs. The power of Google is in our hands.
