Google Romance

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all with Google, they come up with their very own dating site! Well, we tend to think Google is indeed planning to gain dominance in all aspects of the Web, and not only search. So if Yahoo! has its own Yahoo! Personals and MSN has MSN Match, Google has Google Romance.

Accessible via romance.google.com, and announced this first of April, Google Romance is supposed to help singles search for other singles online with a trademarked “Soulmate Search” technology. Couples are matched based on their personal profiles, which are uploaded upon sign-up. Matches are also done from a member’s filling in information of his or her ideal mate.

Once a match is made, couples then go through a trademarked “Contextual Date,” where contextually-appropriate Google ads are supposed to help a couple have a great time on their date with products and services they are likely to be interested in (sounds like AdSense).

With a “Contextual Date,” Google says you get flowers, music, personal advice, e-greetings, and based on Google’s patented natural language-monitoring system, personalized thank-you notes, engagement and bridal wear, and even rings.

Of course, it only takes a check with the date of news posting to see how great an April Fool’s joke this all is!

Happy April Fool’s everyone!

Am I in the minority at being disappointed that this was a prank?

Interesting topic… I’m working in this industry myself and I don’t agree about this in 100%, but I added your page to my bookmarks and hope to see more interesting articles in the future
