Although Google lets you disable the Search History, they still collect it behind the scenes:

"However, as is common practice in the industry, Google maintains a separate logs system for auditing purposes and to help us improve the quality of our services for users."

They do this using a set of cookies which you can easily disable if you use Proxomitron. Proxomitron itself is a wonderful software to have (http://www.proxomitron.info). Once you installed it, right click its icon in the system tray, choose "Add to Clockfile" -> BanCookies and type "http://www.google.com/search*" in the edit box. After that, click the system tray icon of Proxomitron, click Headers and check the Out box next to "Cookie: kill a cookie (out)"

It's up to the user what is to be used.

No privacy issues have been up till now (though keep in mind that the service is still nascent).

Good luck...and take a peek at yourself at the end of the day...it will make a nice personal log!

This article makes it sound like all gmail users will automatically be tracked, which is not true. You must opt in to this service like any other google service.
