Very Cool! Google’s Bird’s Eye View

From Google:
- A bird’s-eye view
Have you ever wished you could see what someplace looked like before you got there? A house? A hotel? A freeway exit? We thought you might find it useful, so we’ve incorporated Keyhole technology into Google Maps and Google Local. Now when you type an address into Google Maps, you can click the ‘Satellite’ link and see a view of the area. You can zoom, move the view by dragging, and even resize the window just like the normal ‘Maps’ view. Looking for a new apartment or house? Type in an address you’re considering, get a view from the air and, with a quick local search, find out if you can walk to your favorite Saturday morning cup of coffee. Thinking about spending time at the shore this summer? Search for hotels with Google Local and check out the “beach” in “beachfront.” You can even see driving directions with real images. We can’t promise you’ll never miss another freeway exit, but we do think that Google Maps + Keyhole gives you a great way to see and explore your world. But take a look for yourself.
More when I get back to the desk later.

We have DSL and I just tried typing in our company address. The graphics look lame and took forever to load, even with our broadband connection.
Then I tried the satellite view and the graphics looked about as I expected, but they took even longer to load.
It might be a nice feature next year when it gets out of beta, but I don’t think it’s ready for prime-time yet.
I don’t know. It looks fantastic for my city. Not lame at all.
I just tried it today (4/5 ~ 9PM EDT) and it works very well (on Cable internet connection). I had been doing similar lookups on the MassGIS Ortho viewer site! The Google site is much, MUCH faster than the MassGIS site and almost as good resolution. Also, the Google satellite images can be panned by dragging … very nice and
pretty reasonablly responsive!!
[BTW, The MassGIS site photos are aerial photos taken at ~ 15,000 ft. not satellite photos!. The MassGIS site has a lookup by address but it is much slower than Google’s and it doesn’t zoom in to the location you identify. It takes quite a few ‘zoom’ mouse clicks and waits to zoom in like Google. ]
I like your website ,and like to communicate with everyone on this issue!
I need to know if someone can lead me step by step on how to get my contacts from my Hotmail account over to my gmail.
Thanks, I’m a new-bee
