New Stock Quote Information Box

Just two days ago, I wrote the article Instant Stock Quotes and Information, which described how to use the Google search box to get quick stock quotes and further data. Today Google has improved this feature.

It’s a small change but does provide a pretty good improvement. Up to yesterday, if you keyed the symbol in the search field it would give you a link to the Yahoo! stock quote page (with links to quote pages from other sources). Now, it provides a snapshot of the stock as a “onebox” right at the top of the search results page.

New Stock Box

It gives you a one-day mini-chart, price, volume, market cap and highs and lows for the day. I am very pleased to see that they included the real time price at the bottom, in addition to the 15-minute delayed price.

I see that there is no notice of copyright on the chart, which must mean they’ve put it together themselves. This has to be another step towards Google creating their own stock information system. How long can they really stomach passing everyone to Yahoo! Finance anyway?
