Gmail Storage Limit Increased!
Check your Gmail inbox–if it’s like mine and others who are reporting in, you’ve now got 1382 1684 1856 2050 MB of storage! So much for the old 1GB that Yahoo! Mail recently matched.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! According to an article on CNET, they are set to actually double the advertised 1GB storage limit to 2GB!
BUT WAIT, THERE’S EVEN MORE!! The CNET article quotes Georges Harik, Gmail product management director as saying “After that [2GB], Google will add a yet-to-be-determined amount of extra storage daily, with no plans to stop.”
He also put to rest the rumors of an imminent official release of Gmail, saying that the addition of new features keep it in public beta for the time being.
UPDATE: It’s official, here’s a note from Gmail in New Features:
- G is for growth
Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn’t mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we’re giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people’s lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

My mailbox has 1572MB of space. I’m wondering if this is just an April Fools joke though…
Yahoo must me so peed off. After spending half a ton of cash upgrading thier servers, etc to give everyone the same as Gmail, Google goes and ups their limit the next day!
I love Google.
